XLrator Media (Jimi: All Is By My Side, The Machine) announced the U.S. release of the action-thriller CAMINO starring Zoë Bell (The Hateful Eight, Death Proof) and Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes, Open Windows) in a rare acting role. Fully financed and produced by Bleiberg Entertainment, the film will be released in early 2016 on XLrator’s “TURBO” action label.
CAMINO was directed by Josh C. Waller, who previously collaborated with Bell on Raze, written by Daniel Noah (Max Rose, McCanick), and produced by Waller, Noah, and Ehud Bleiberg (The Iceman). Nicholas Donnermeyer and Barry Gordon executive produce along with Bell and Vigalondo. Bleiberg Entertainment and Red Granite International subsidiary Blue Box International are handling international sales at the Toronto International Film Festival.
ABOUT CAMINO
Set in 1985, war photographer Avery Taggert (Zoë Bell) has built a solid career with her stark and honest imagery, all the while remaining emotionally distant from her subjects. When she embeds in the jungles of Colombia with a squad of missionaries led by a beloved and charismatic Spaniard known as "El Guero" (Nacho Vigalondo), she finds herself in the middle of a conflict as violent as any she's photographed. One night, she happens upon El Guero committing a heinous atrocity, capturing the vile act on film, an image with the potential to discredit and destroy El Guero. Knowing this brilliant psychopath will employ every tactic at his disposal to destroy that photograph - and the photographer who took it - Avery flees into the harsh jungle with nothing but the camera hanging around her neck to escape from missionaries twisted into violent guerrillas by the madman intent on destroying all enemies.
“It was important after Raze and McCanick and especially after the past few years of our work within SpectreVision for me to make a film that ‘came from the gut.’ Something that felt true to myself and to the artists we surround ourselves with. I think we did it. We’ve made our own little ‘Electro-Jungle-Western.’ Plus, to be able to piece together a film almost entirely with our friends, that’s what it’s all about. Thanks goodness the folks at XLrator Media share that vision as well,” said director Josh C. Waller.
“It was great working with Josh and Daniel again. The film is filled with tension and there are so many great sequences. I can’t wait for people to see it,” said producer Ehud Bleiberg.
“Zoë Bell is a multitalented actress, martial artist and stuntwoman, having shown her incredible physical skills in Kill Bill, Death Proof, Inglourious Basterds, Raze, Django Unchained and her upcoming roles in Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight and our own film Paradox. Action fans will embrace her starring role in CAMINO where she gets to show her full range of talents,” said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon.
Best known as a writer-director, Nacho Vigalondo wrote & directed Timecrimes, Open Windows (produced by SpectreVision), segments for V/H/S: Viral and The ABCs of Death, and will next helm Colossal starring Anne Hathaway.

Robbie (Jansen Panettiere), an Ohio teen with an attitude, moves in with his Aunt (Cynthia Rothrock) and Uncle (Don “The Dragon” Wilson) in sunny Florida. Robbie soon meets Rina (Kathryn Newton), but her boyfriend, Bo, the town bully (Matthew Ziff), beats Robbie down just for talking to his girl. Bo is a student at Dojo Extreme, a mixed martial art gym run by a fierce coach named Kaine (T.J. Storm) who trains his students that “Mite Makes Right.” This type of training goes against traditional
martial art philosophies.
Robbie and Rina are destined to be together, but Robbie must fight to prove himself before that can happen. In this beachside town, Bo & his tough friends run things their way until Robbie learns martial arts, stands up to the bullies, and defends Rina and the citizens of the community.
How the Martial Arts Kid came to be
While in Detroit to film expo footage for Don “The Dragon” Wilson and Cynthia Rothrock, director Michael Baumgarten met martial artist & actor TJ Storm. Michael thought it would be great to work with him on a movie. Around the same time, Don’s brother (James Wilson) told Michael that he wanted him to do a treatment (aka outline) for a martial arts movie with a family film theme and, that he wanted to film it in his and Don’s hometown of Cocoa Beach, Florida.
Michael created a detailed 10-page treatment about a teen nephew in crisis, needing a second chance, and having martial arts be the catalyst for a better life.
To get a jump on filming locations, Michael visited Cocoa Beach.
Months later, Michael returned to Cocoa Beach for open casting calls and additional location scouting.
The local turn-out was so amazing that Michael wrote in a scene to showcase two hundred extras in a martial art demonstration as “thanks” for showing up and wanting to be part of the movie.
In LA, casting directors Jerry Wolff and Kristine Nite brought in actor Jansen Panettiere.
Several days before filming it’s revealed that James Wilson’s 45 day Kickstarter campaign went over its $150,000 goal.
After a 2-year journey, the first day of filming The Martial Arts Kid finally arrived.
The Martial Arts Kid was shot in 14 days – with 6 filming days in Florida and 8 filming days in Los Angeles. Once the movie was nearly picture-locked, the editor and the director came up with a list of additional photography and 1 day of pickups was added. The movie was shot on a pair of Canon C300 HD cameras with some GoPro shots added.
Below is the trailer and we strongly urge everyone in either New York or Los Angeles to support this movie!

From Paolo Sorrentino, the internationally renowned writer and director of Italy’s Oscar-winning foreign language film The Great Beauty, comes YOUTH – a poignant tale of how we each find our own passion in life.
Starring Academy Award winner Michael Caine as Fred and Academy Award nominee Harvey Keitel as Mick, YOUTH explores the lifelong bond between two friends vacationing in a luxury Swiss Alps lodge as they ponder retirement.
While Fred has no plans to resume his musical career despite the urging of his loving daughter Lena (Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz), Mick is intent on finishing the screenplay for what may be his last important film for his muse Brenda (Academy Award winner Jane Fonda). And where will inspiration lead their younger friend Jimmy (Paul Dano), an actor grasping to make sense of his next performance? Set against a sprawling landscape of unforgettable sights and intoxicating music, YOUTH asks if our most important and life-changing experiences can come at any time – even late – in life.
Academy Award nominee Patricia Clarkson and Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley star in this feel-good, coming of (middle) age comedy about a mismatched pair who help each other overcome life's road blocks.
Wendy is a fiery Manhattan author whose husband has just left her for a younger woman; Darwan is a soft-spoken taxi driver from India on the verge of an arranged marriage. As Wendy sets out to reclaim her independence, she runs into a barrier common to many lifelong New Yorkers: she’s never learned to drive. When Wendy hires Darwan to teach her, her unraveling life and his calm restraint seem like an awkward fit. But as he shows her how to take control of the wheel, and she coaches him on how to impress a woman, their unlikely friendship awakens them to the joy, humor, and love in starting life anew.

COMING SOON!
Back in 2010, at midnight, some friends and I stepped into the Landmark Sunshine Cinema on the lower east side and witnessed a screening of Duke Mitchell's "lost, now found" movie Gone With The Pope.
We were forever changed.
It is a masterpiece. A hilarious, thoughtful, beautiful, crude, kick ass masterpiece.
Then came the years of waiting.
Grindhouse Releasing, who's co-founder Bob Murawski edited the film together, let the movie be screened in various independent or cult cinemas but always resisted a home video release due to 'wanting to maintain the authenticity of the cinematic experience'. This was all very well and either the ultimate act of film nerdom, incredibly pretentious, incredibly selfish or some combination of the three. Despite the statement, the film only played maybe once more in New York City in the last 5 years and that initial screening remains my only viewing of this mesmerising, inventive, grimy, B-Grade gem.
Then in 2013 hopes were raised when an announcement was made that Gone With The Pope (along with a lot of other of Grindhouse Releasing's titles) was to be released on Blu Ray. That was about 20 months ago.
In December of 2014 Duke Mitchell's only fully completed film in his lifetime, the influential, crazy, poetic and violent Massacre Mafia Style was made available for pre-order on Amazon. I was a little baffled that this was getting a Blu release first and miffed I'd seen nothing more about Gone With The Pope but I, of course, pre-ordered it and went about my day. While it doesn't have the sheer, mind-bending invention of Gone With The Pope, it is a tremendous example of independent, fun, weird and wonderful cinema.
Finally! There was an announcement today, seemingly out of the blue, that the home release of Gone With The Pope was available for pre-order via DiabolikDvd.com. Incredible! Amazing! The wait is over and it tastes so sweet!
For those who don't know it, the story behind Gone With The Pope: Duke Mitchell was a Sinatra style crooner. The self appointed “King of Palm Springs.”
Early in his career he also had a Martin and Lewis style comedy act with Sammy Petrillo. Michell may have got the film bug when he was featured in the 1952 rare weirdness that is Bela Lugosi meets a Brooklyn Gorilla, and fans of The Flintstones cartoons should know Mitchell provided Fred’s Elvis like singing voice on a number of episodes.
Bob Murawski, who co-owns Grindhouse Releasing (originally with, the sadly now late, Sage Stallone), ended up watching Massacre Mafia Style and loving it. Wanting more Duke Mitchell, he set out to try and find him, only to discover that Duke had died in 1981.
Then the Grindhouse Releasing duo got in touch with Duke’s son Jeffrey who told Bob Murawski about Gone with the Pope. Seventeen reels had been shot and a rough assembly of the movie put together but Duke had died before he had a chance to finish it. Jeffrey Mitchell agreed that Bob Murawski could edit and complete the film. It took 15 years (Murawski is also an in-demand Hollywood editor) but he did the very best restoration and edit job he could to get Gone With The Pope into shape and what is revealed is a thing of pure, weird beauty.
