Directed by Benjamin Dickinson

About Creative Control:
The setting is New York, 5 minutes in the future. The glorious technological advances and communication devices of the near future meant to increase connectivity and alleviate boredom are only increasing the anxiety level of the insecure New Yorkers who've inherited them. David (writer/director Benjamin Dickinson) is an overworked, tech-addled advertising executive developing a high-profile marketing campaign for a new generation of Augmented Reality glasses. Feeling stuck in his relationship with yoga teacher Juliette (Nora Zehetner, BRICK, IFC's "Maron"), he envies the charmed life of his best friend, fashion photographer Wim (Dan Gill, THE WEDDING RINGER) and his entrancing girlfriend Sophie (Alexia Rasmussen, CALIFORNIA SOLO) - so he uses the glasses to develop a life-like avatar of her. Unwittingly, fantasy and reality begin to blur. As passions escalate and things get increasingly out of hand, the friends are forced to deal with the impending collision between their public, private and imaginary lives.

MAGNOLIA PICTURES Acquires Worldwide Rights To Werner Herzog’s Internet Documentary ‘LO AND BEHOLD: REVERIES OF THE CONNECTED WORLD’

Magnolia Pictures announced today that it has acquired worldwide rights to LO AND BEHOLD: REVERIES OF THE CONNECTED WORLD, a playful and intellectually searching new documentary by legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog (GRIZZLY MAN, CAVE OF FORGOTTEN DREAMS) that offers a bold exploration of the past, present and constantly evolving future of the Internet. Praised by critics after its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this week, the film features interviews (conducted by Herzog) with a diverse array of tech pioneers including PayPal and Tesla co-founder Elon Musk, Internet protocol inventor Bob Kahn, and famed hacker Kevin Mitnick. Magnolia is targeting a 2016 theatrical release.

In LO AND BEHOLD: REVERIES OF THE CONNECTED WORLD, the Oscar-nominated Herzog chronicles the virtual world from its origins to its outermost reaches, exploring the digital landscape with the same curiosity and imagination he previously trained on earthly destinations as disparate as the Amazon, the Sahara, the South Pole and the Australian outback.
Working with NetScout, a world leader in real time service assurance and cybersecurity, Herzog leads viewers on a journey through a series of provocative conversations that reveal the ways in which the online world has transformed how virtually everything in the real world works - from business to education, space travel to healthcare, and the very heart of how we conduct our personal relationships.

“As only he can do, Werner Herzog has crafted an endlessly entertaining and thought-provoking analysis of modern technology,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. “Through his unique and inquisitive vision, LO AND BEHOLD: REVERIES OF THE CONNECTED WORLD allows audiences to experience the Internet in new ways.”

“My dream at Sundance to take off from the Olympic ramp on skis remains unfulfilled, but I am even more exhilarated by the fact that my film now is taking flight through Magnolia,” said Herzog.

"Our vision for this project has always been to inform as many people as possible about the perils and the possibilities of the connected world,” said Executive Producer Jim McNiel. “We could not have chosen a more capable partner than Magnolia to get the story out."

Written and directed by Werner Herzog and presented by NetScout in association with Saville Productions, Pereira & O’Dell Entertainment and Skellig Rock, LO AND BEHOLD: REVERIES OF THE CONNECTED WORLD was produced by Rupert Maconick and Herzog. Executive Producers are Jim McNiel of NetScout, Dave Arnold, Tennille Teague and David Moore.

After Movie Diner Editor's comments:
If the trailer below is anything to go by this is going to be another engaging, humourous, sweet and weird Herzog film that I, for one, can't wait to see. I am a huge fan of Herzog's stuff and his documentaries remain the films of his I can watch over and over. I don't see this one being any different.

DRUNK STONED BRILLIANT DEAD: THE STORY OF NATIONAL LAMPOON
In Theaters, On Demand and On iTunes on September 25th
Directed by Douglas Tirola
Featuring Judd Apatow, Kevin Bacon, Chevy Chase, John Goodman, Bill Murray and more!

From the 1970s thru the 1990s, there was no hipper, no more outrageous comedy in print than The National Lampoon, the groundbreaking humor magazine that pushed the limits of taste and acceptability - and then pushed them even harder. Parodying everything from politics, religion, entertainment and the whole of American lifestyle, the Lampoon eventually went on to branch into successful radio shows, record albums, live stage revues and movies, including ANIMAL HOUSE and NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION, launching dozens of huge careers on the way.
Director Tirola tells the story of its rise and fall through fresh, candid interviews with its key staff, and illustrated with hundreds of outrageous images from the mag itself (along with never-seen interview footage from the magazine's prime). The film gives fans of the Lampoon a unique inside look at a magazine that dared to think what no one was thinking, but wished they had.

Magnolia Takes US Rights to Richard Ayoade’s THE DOUBLE

The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnolia Pictures announced that they have acquired US rights to THE DOUBLE, the new film directed and co-written by Richard Ayoade (Submarine), starring Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) and Mia Wasikowska (Jane Eyre).

A darkly funny and moving dystopian vision loosely based on the novella by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, THE DOUBLE boasts a terrific supporting cast, including Wallace Shawn, Yasmin Paige, Noah Taylor, James Fox, Cathy Moriarty, Chris O’Dowd, Sally Hawkins, Craig Roberts and Paddy Considine. Co-written by Avi Korine, THE DOUBLE was produced by Amina Dasmal and Robin Fox, with executive producers Michael Caine, Graeme Cox, Tessa Ross and Nigel Williams. It bowed to critical acclaim at the Toronto International Film Festival last month.

Eisenberg plays Simon, a timid, isolated man who’s overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams (Wasikowska). The arrival of a new co-worker, James (also played by Eisenberg), serves to upset the balance. James is both Simon's exact physical double and his opposite - confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simon's horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.
Said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles, “THE DOUBLE is an incredibly assured, confident and visionary film. Richard Ayoade is a talent to be reckoned with—he firmly establishes himself as an dynamic and important auteur with this uncannily entertaining, stylish and compulsively watchable film.”
Producer Amina Dasmal states "Magnolia's proven ability to work so well with the leading filmmakers and original voices of our time, makes them the perfect partner for this urgent film"
Producer Robin Fox adds "Magnolia's passion for the film and for Richard's work give us a great comfort the film will be handled with strength and thought needed to give it the platform it richly deserves"
Magnolia is eyeing a 2014 theatrical release for THE DOUBLE following a robust domestic festival run.
The deal was negotiated by Magnolia Director of Acquisitions John Von Thaden, with WME Global and Protagonist Pictures on behalf of the filmmakers.

The Double is Film4 and BFI presentation of an Alcove Entertainment production in association with Protagonist Pictures.

New documentary 'Muscle Shoals' looks at musically rich area of Alabama

New from Magnolia Pictures, Muscle Shoals is directed by Greg 'Freddy' Camalier and features Aretha Franklin, Bono, Greg Allman, Clarence Carter, Mick Jagger, Etta James, Alicia Keys, Keith Richards, Percy Sledge and more!

Located alongside the Tennessee River, Muscle Shoals, Alabama is the unlikely breeding ground for some of America's most creative and defiant music. Under the spiritual influence of the "Singing River," as Native Americans called it, the music of Muscle Shoals has helped create some of the most important and resonant songs of all time. At its heart is Rick Hall who founded FAME Studios. Overcoming crushing poverty and staggering tragedies, Hall brought black and white together in Alabama's cauldron of racial hostility to create music for the generations. He is responsible for creating the "Muscle Shoals sound" and The Swampers, the house band at FAME that eventually left to start their own successful studio, known as Muscle Shoals Sound. Greg Allman, Bono, Clarence Carter, Mick Jagger, Etta James, Alicia Keys, Keith Richards, Percy Sledge and others bear witness to Muscle Shoals' magnetism, mystery and why it remains influential today.

I am, personally a huge fan of this kind of music and so can't wait to watch the documentary, also I have a whole new place to add to my list of 'places to visit' in The States.
