Amazon presents Complete Unknown - Official Selection of the 2016 Sundance Film Festival ‘Premiere’ Category

Presents

COMPLETE UNKNOWN
A mysterious woman with a remarkable past revisits a former lover, complicating the settled life he has built for himself and his wife in Complete Unknown, an unsettling exploration of identity from acclaimed filmmaker Joshua Marston.

As Tom (Michael Shannon) celebrates his birthday with a group of close friends in Brooklyn, he is startled to see a woman from his distant past at the party. Jenny — or Alice (Rachel Weisz), as she now calls herself — first denies even knowing Tom, but as the evening progresses, she reveals a shocking secret. After disappearing from Tom’s life 20 years earlier, she began to reinvent herself every few years, taking on a new name, a new career and a new life each time. After giving Tom a glimpse of what life could be like if he lets go of the safety and security he has so carefully created, Alice asks him to make a choice that will change everything.

Directed by Joshua Marston from a script he co-wrote with Julian Sheppard (stage play “Buicks,” web series “Mayne Street”),
Complete Unknown stars Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road, “Boardwalk Empire”), Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener, Youth), Kathy Bates (Titanic, Misery) and Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon, Beloved).

Producers are Lucas Joaquin (Love is Strange, Beasts of the Southern Wild), Lars Knudsen (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Love is Strange) and Jay Van Hoy (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Frank & Lola).
Director of photography is Christos Voudouris (Love is Strange, Before Midnight).

ZOË BELL ACTION-THRILLER “CAMINO” GETS U.S. RELEASE ON TURBO LABEL

XLrator Media (Jimi: All Is By My Side, The Machine) announced the U.S. release of the action-thriller CAMINO starring Zoë Bell (The Hateful Eight, Death Proof) and Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes, Open Windows) in a rare acting role. Fully financed and produced by Bleiberg Entertainment, the film will be released in early 2016 on XLrator’s “TURBO” action label.

CAMINO was directed by Josh C. Waller, who previously collaborated with Bell on Raze, written by Daniel Noah (Max Rose, McCanick), and produced by Waller, Noah, and Ehud Bleiberg (The Iceman). Nicholas Donnermeyer and Barry Gordon executive produce along with Bell and Vigalondo. Bleiberg Entertainment and Red Granite International subsidiary Blue Box International are handling international sales at the Toronto International Film Festival.

ABOUT CAMINO
Set in 1985, war photographer Avery Taggert (Zoë Bell) has built a solid career with her stark and honest imagery, all the while remaining emotionally distant from her subjects. When she embeds in the jungles of Colombia with a squad of missionaries led by a beloved and charismatic Spaniard known as "El Guero" (Nacho Vigalondo), she finds herself in the middle of a conflict as violent as any she's photographed. One night, she happens upon El Guero committing a heinous atrocity, capturing the vile act on film, an image with the potential to discredit and destroy El Guero. Knowing this brilliant psychopath will employ every tactic at his disposal to destroy that photograph - and the photographer who took it - Avery flees into the harsh jungle with nothing but the camera hanging around her neck to escape from missionaries twisted into violent guerrillas by the madman intent on destroying all enemies.

“It was important after Raze and McCanick and especially after the past few years of our work within SpectreVision for me to make a film that ‘came from the gut.’ Something that felt true to myself and to the artists we surround ourselves with. I think we did it. We’ve made our own little ‘Electro-Jungle-Western.’ Plus, to be able to piece together a film almost entirely with our friends, that’s what it’s all about. Thanks goodness the folks at XLrator Media share that vision as well,” said director Josh C. Waller.

“It was great working with Josh and Daniel again. The film is filled with tension and there are so many great sequences. I can’t wait for people to see it,” said producer Ehud Bleiberg.

Zoë Bell is a multitalented actress, martial artist and stuntwoman, having shown her incredible physical skills in Kill Bill, Death Proof, Inglourious Basterds, Raze, Django Unchained and her upcoming roles in Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight and our own film Paradox. Action fans will embrace her starring role in CAMINO where she gets to show her full range of talents,” said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon.

Best known as a writer-director, Nacho Vigalondo wrote & directed Timecrimes, Open Windows (produced by SpectreVision), segments for V/H/S: Viral and The ABCs of Death, and will next helm Colossal starring Anne Hathaway.

Magnolia Takes US Rights to Richard Ayoade’s THE DOUBLE

The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnolia Pictures announced that they have acquired US rights to THE DOUBLE, the new film directed and co-written by Richard Ayoade (Submarine), starring Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) and Mia Wasikowska (Jane Eyre).

A darkly funny and moving dystopian vision loosely based on the novella by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, THE DOUBLE boasts a terrific supporting cast, including Wallace Shawn, Yasmin Paige, Noah Taylor, James Fox, Cathy Moriarty, Chris O’Dowd, Sally Hawkins, Craig Roberts and Paddy Considine. Co-written by Avi Korine, THE DOUBLE was produced by Amina Dasmal and Robin Fox, with executive producers Michael Caine, Graeme Cox, Tessa Ross and Nigel Williams. It bowed to critical acclaim at the Toronto International Film Festival last month.

Eisenberg plays Simon, a timid, isolated man who’s overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams (Wasikowska). The arrival of a new co-worker, James (also played by Eisenberg), serves to upset the balance. James is both Simon's exact physical double and his opposite - confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simon's horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.
Said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles, “THE DOUBLE is an incredibly assured, confident and visionary film. Richard Ayoade is a talent to be reckoned with—he firmly establishes himself as an dynamic and important auteur with this uncannily entertaining, stylish and compulsively watchable film.”
Producer Amina Dasmal states "Magnolia's proven ability to work so well with the leading filmmakers and original voices of our time, makes them the perfect partner for this urgent film"
Producer Robin Fox adds "Magnolia's passion for the film and for Richard's work give us a great comfort the film will be handled with strength and thought needed to give it the platform it richly deserves"
Magnolia is eyeing a 2014 theatrical release for THE DOUBLE following a robust domestic festival run.
The deal was negotiated by Magnolia Director of Acquisitions John Von Thaden, with WME Global and Protagonist Pictures on behalf of the filmmakers.

The Double is Film4 and BFI presentation of an Alcove Entertainment production in association with Protagonist Pictures.
