MAGNOLIA PICTURES Acquires Worldwide Rights To Werner Herzog’s Internet Documentary ‘LO AND BEHOLD: REVERIES OF THE CONNECTED WORLD’

Magnolia Pictures announced today that it has acquired worldwide rights to LO AND BEHOLD: REVERIES OF THE CONNECTED WORLD, a playful and intellectually searching new documentary by legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog (GRIZZLY MAN, CAVE OF FORGOTTEN DREAMS) that offers a bold exploration of the past, present and constantly evolving future of the Internet. Praised by critics after its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this week, the film features interviews (conducted by Herzog) with a diverse array of tech pioneers including PayPal and Tesla co-founder Elon Musk, Internet protocol inventor Bob Kahn, and famed hacker Kevin Mitnick. Magnolia is targeting a 2016 theatrical release.

In LO AND BEHOLD: REVERIES OF THE CONNECTED WORLD, the Oscar-nominated Herzog chronicles the virtual world from its origins to its outermost reaches, exploring the digital landscape with the same curiosity and imagination he previously trained on earthly destinations as disparate as the Amazon, the Sahara, the South Pole and the Australian outback.
Working with NetScout, a world leader in real time service assurance and cybersecurity, Herzog leads viewers on a journey through a series of provocative conversations that reveal the ways in which the online world has transformed how virtually everything in the real world works - from business to education, space travel to healthcare, and the very heart of how we conduct our personal relationships.

“As only he can do, Werner Herzog has crafted an endlessly entertaining and thought-provoking analysis of modern technology,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. “Through his unique and inquisitive vision, LO AND BEHOLD: REVERIES OF THE CONNECTED WORLD allows audiences to experience the Internet in new ways.”

“My dream at Sundance to take off from the Olympic ramp on skis remains unfulfilled, but I am even more exhilarated by the fact that my film now is taking flight through Magnolia,” said Herzog.

"Our vision for this project has always been to inform as many people as possible about the perils and the possibilities of the connected world,” said Executive Producer Jim McNiel. “We could not have chosen a more capable partner than Magnolia to get the story out."

Written and directed by Werner Herzog and presented by NetScout in association with Saville Productions, Pereira & O’Dell Entertainment and Skellig Rock, LO AND BEHOLD: REVERIES OF THE CONNECTED WORLD was produced by Rupert Maconick and Herzog. Executive Producers are Jim McNiel of NetScout, Dave Arnold, Tennille Teague and David Moore.

After Movie Diner Editor's comments:
If the trailer below is anything to go by this is going to be another engaging, humourous, sweet and weird Herzog film that I, for one, can't wait to see. I am a huge fan of Herzog's stuff and his documentaries remain the films of his I can watch over and over. I don't see this one being any different.

XLRATOR MEDIA Acquires “SUN CHOKE” for North American Distribution on its Acclaimed MACABRE Label

XLrator Media has acquired North American distribution rights to the thriller SUN CHOKE and will release the film this Summer on its acclaimed “MACABRE” genre label. The film has played over a dozen festivals including FrightFest and the Stanley Film Festival.

Written and directed by Ben Cresciman (Negative Space), SUN CHOKE stars iconic horror film actress Barbara Crampton (You’re Next, Re-Animator, Lords of Salem), Sarah Hagan (“Freaks and Geeks,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) and Sara Malakul Lane (17 & Life: Jailbait, the upcoming Kickboxer: Vengeance) along with Evan Jones, Joe Nieves and Jim Boeven. The film features a haunting score by noted musician/producer Boom Bip (aka Bryan Hollon).

SUN CHOKE is a deeply unsettling psychological thriller in the vein of Roman Polanski’s Repulsion that will leave audiences emotionally shaken and questioning the line between reality and nightmare. It’s an impressive, assured work that marks Ben Cresciman as an important filmmaker to watch,” said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon.

ABOUT SUN CHOKE
Janie (Sarah Hagan) is just trying to get well. As Janie recovers from a recent violent psychotic break, she’s subjected each day to a bizarre holistic health and wellness regimen designed, and enforced, by her lifelong nanny and caretaker, Irma (Barbara Crampton). Janie begins to veer off the road to recovery when she develops an obsession with a young woman, Savannah (Sarah Malakul Lane), whom Janie feels an inexplicable yet profound connection to. The obsession turns increasingly invasive and wedges all three women into an ever-tightening and terrifying struggle for control. Will Janie pull herself back from the precipice of insanity? Or will she go over head-first, taking everyone down with her?

SUN CHOKE is produced by George Kallert, Rob Schroeder and Peter J. Nieves of Lodger Films with Wandie Kabule, Leigh Jones and Ian Keiser.
